Chef Degen started his culinary training in San Francisco at the California Culinary Academy, and then went on to cook at the Michelin starred Acquerello restaurant.
He relocated to Healdsburg in 2009, and honed his pizza skills at the beloved SCOPA. After seven years of success, (and becoming a girl-Dad of 2) he was recruited to become Sous Chef at the famed sparkling producer,
While the years spent at J Winery solidified his love of wine pairings it was his following home at the beautiful Reeve Wines where he got to further understand the majesty and fun of small family owned wine production and the complimentary attention to detail that he asked of himself as a Chef.
Then in Spring of 2022 he decided to go to the source…ovens, wood-fired ovens to be exact, where he humbly held the position of Culinary Director at Healdsburg’s Mugnaini Wood Fired Ovens.
Today you can find Chef Degen catering, working for private clients, teaching classes, tossing dough, and talking wood fired cooking wherever he goes and to anyone he meets.
